Cloud Backup

Council laptops contain large amounts of crucial information such as meeting agendas, minutes, financial information, and a wealth of other critical government data. Loosing this data could be disastrous for the smooth functioning of local government.

Ensure your parish council data is safe by having it backed up to our secure cloud backup for a simple monthly fee. No mater what happens, whether a laptop is lost, stolen, or just breaks - your data is safe.

Why should I backup to the cloud?

Everyone should have a backup of some kind, no matter what. It is possible to back up to a local device such as USB drive, but this could be lost or just forget. Our cloud backup ensures all your data is always backed up to our data centre where it's completely safe no matter what happens.

Simple & Automatic

Our cloud backup for parish councils is simple and easy to use, we simply install the software and connect it to your account and everything else is fully automatic.

Your data is constantly backed up to our own private cloud in our Wolverhampton data centre where we keep it safe and secure. Should you ever need it again we can restore the missing data in minutes.

Secure

Government data at any level of government is highly sensitive and we take that seriously.

Frequently Asked Questions

Backups are improtant, but they don't have to be confusing. Ultimately backups are just a constantly repeating copy and paste, but just a little bit more complicated! We make it completely automatic and very simple, but here are a few common questions we get asked by councils about our cloud backup service.

Where is my backup data stored?

When using our cloud backup for parish and town councils your data is encrypted on your device and then securely uploaded over the internet to our backup servers in our private data centre suite in London.

How much backup storage do I have?

We like to keep things simple so we don't restrict the amount of data you can backup, we simply charge a set fee per user and that includes all the disk space they need to backup however much data they have on their various devices.

How long do you keep backups?

We keep your backup data for 90 days by default, but if you need longer then let us know and we can arrange a custom retention policy. We have some customers who store daily backups for a few months and the keep monthly and quarterly backups for years, just let us know what you need and we'll work out a solution specially for you.

What operating systems does your backup software support?

We can provide cloud backup to computers running Windows, macOS, or even Linux.

Will it work on my broadband?

Cloud backup relies on your internet connection to upload the data to our cloud backup servers, once up and running though it will only backup data that has changed so each backup is often only a tiny upload so doesn't impact your broadband at all. At first your data might take a long time to upload the first time we do a backup though as we need to upload all your data one time, and from that point on we then only backup changes so it's much quicker.

If you have fibre broadband then you shouldn't have any problem using our cloud backup, but if you aren't sure get in touch and we can discuss options with you to protect your data in situations where connectivity isn't very good.

Are my backups encrypted and secure?

Absolutely, your data is 100% secure in our cloud backup. Our software encrypts your data on your computer prior to then uploading it to our servers over a secure connection. Once uploaded to our servers they are safe and sound in our own private suite in a London data centre.

The data centre itself is protected by 24/7/365 security, monitored alarms and security cameras, laser trip wires, anti-vehicle fencing, lockable server racks, RFID secured internal doors, and a host of other security measures to make sure everything is as secure as possible. We also operate our own CCTV cameras in the data centre suite in addition to the facility CCTV.

For added peace of mind Pear Space through it's parent company Freethought Group holds both Cyber Essentials and ISO 27001, the international gold standard for information security.

How long does it take to restore data?

A restore can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few hours depending on what needs restoring, if you just need a file you accidentally deleted then it can usually be restored in just a few seconds. If you need an entire computer restoring onto a replacement or repaired computer then this can take a bit longer.

If the worst happens though don't panic, give us a call and we will get you up and running as quickly as humanly and technologically possible.
